Is Small Group PT Right for You?

Is Small Group PT Right for You?

Posted by Tommy Halligan on

At The Lab Liverpool, we often get asked: 'Should I go for one-to-one personal training or small group sessions?' The answer depends on your goals, preferences, and how you like to be supported.

As a team of professionals with nearly 35 years of combined coaching experience, we’ve seen people thrive in both formats, but for very different reasons.

SGPT at The Lab is a hybrid of personal coaching and team motivation…

SGPT at The Lab is a hybrid of individual coaching and group energy. Each group is capped at 6 people. Everyone follows their own tailored plan, but you’re coached together, so you still get expert eyes on you and real-time feedback, without the silence or guesswork of solo gym sessions.

If you're looking for a jumpstart, check out our 6-Week SGPT Kickstart to see how members get started strong.

The Benefits

  • Cost-effective: More affordable than 1-to-1 PT while still offering structure.

  • Motivating: Training with others adds accountability and energy.

  • Flexible: Choose session times that suit your schedule.

Some clients have told us they actually push harder in a group, not because it’s competitive, but because the energy lifts them. That said, a little friendly competition never hurts either.

Is SGPT Right for You?

SGPT is perfect if you want structure, coaching, and progress, without the full cost of personal training.

It’s not ideal for someone chasing hour-long technical skill work on one lift (like Olympic weightlifting), but it’s ideal for general strength, fat loss, muscle gain, and building confidence.

How We Track Progress

Every member’s program is delivered via TrueCoach, our online platform that gives you full access to your training plan, exercise demos, and weekly tracking, alongside extra supporting documents.

We also offer:

  • Bi-weekly check-ins to reflect, reset, and adjust as needed

  • Basic nutrition support to help you fuel for your goals

  • Clear progress markers, so you always know where you stand
